Getting the size right the first time is the difference between gear your dog forgets they are wearing and gear that goes back in the box. Grab a soft tape measure, take two minutes, and you will not have to guess.
How to measure your dog
Neck, for collars
Measure right around the base of the neck, where the collar naturally sits. Keep the tape snug but not tight, then slide two fingers under it. That gap is the fit you want.
Chest, for harnesses
Wrap the tape around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs, and back to where you started. Harnesses are sized by this measurement, with neck as a second check.
Leashes
Nothing to measure on your dog. Leashes are measured end to end, clip to handle, so pick the length that suits your walks.
Collars
Every collar below is adjustable within its size. Measure your dog's neck, then match it to that product's own table, since the ranges differ from product to product.

Harness
A harness is sized by chest girth. Neck is listed so you can sanity check the fit, and chest is the measurement to go by if the two disagree by more than a size.

Nothing to measure on your dog here. Most Hales leashes come in one fixed length, and where a leash is offered in more than one size the difference is length and strap width rather than fit.

Other sizing tips
- Don't have a soft tape measure? Use a piece of string or rope and measure the string with a ruler as you go.
- For growing puppies or dogs with extra thick coats, we recommend adding a little extra space, about three fingers, when measuring.
- In between sizes? Our recommendation is to size up.
